Apr 16, 2018Funeral services for Gloria Elliott Long, 91, of Ruston, Louisiana, formerly of El Dorado, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday at West Side Baptist Church in El Dorado with the Rev. Gerald Perry officiating and family eulogy by Ronnie Vail. Burial will follow at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Bernice, Louisiana under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.Mrs. Long was born Gloria Lee Elliott on Feb. 2, 1927 to Omer and Mattie Lee Elliott of Bernice. She passed away suddenly on April 10, 2018 in Ruston. Gloria grew up in the Pisgah community in Bernice and after high school went to a two-year business college in Monroe where she learned bookkeeping, which became her career. She worked for Union Tire Company in El Dorado for 40 years. She was an active member of West Side Baptist Church and participated in the Golden Agers program and fellowship. She was an accomplished cook and loved baking her famous ‘pound cakes’ for occasions and fundraisers at her church. Her Sunday school class friends were her family during her active days and became lifelong family as well. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Morelle A. Elliott; sister, Erline Elliott Roberson; two husbands, E.J. Davidson, and Dewey Davidson.Gloria is survived by husband, Paul O. Long of Eldorado, AR; nieces: Martha R. Vail (Ronnie) of Ruston, Laurie E. Babb (Eric) of Memphis, TN, Nancy E. McKinnie of Asheville, NC; nephew: Charles M. Elliott (Darlene) of Bernice, LA; and great nieces: Sara and Lisa Babb of Washington, DC. She is also survived by Mr. Long’s children: Judy Tucker (Lonnie), Paula Clark (Tommy), and Jack Long (Darinda) and their families, several Elliott, Lee, and Grafton cousins, her Davidson family relatives, and many loving and special friends.The family would like to extend special thanks to the management and staff at The Arbor and Terrace of Ruston where she enjoyed the last 9 months of her life full of love, laughter, and compassionate care.
